The 1990s was one of the best time for rom-coms. There were some excellent movies that brought heartfelt storylines, and they continue to remain positive and fun options to check out today. 10 Things I Hate About You certainly stands out as one of them.
The Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles movie brought us a retelling of William Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. The name of the movie came from the poem that Stiles’s Kat Stratford reads at the end of the movie, making it her English project that she had to do.

10 Things I Hate About You is leaving Netflix
Right now, you can check out the 1999 movie on Netflix, but that is only until the end of the year. According to What’s On Netflix, it’s scheduled to leave the streaming platform at the end of the month, with its last date set for Monday, Dec. 29.
If you haven’t watched the movie yet, it’s a must. Ledger plays Patrick Verona, a bad boy at the school who ends up falling for Kat. However, at first, he’s paid to date Kat, as Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Cameron James wants to date Kat’s younger sister, Bianca. Bianca isn’t allowed to go out on a date until her anti-social sister does as well.
In the end, Kat starts to fall for Patrick, even though she doesn’t exactly want to be out on a date with him in the first place. She even tries her hardest to make him not like her. Yet, they two start to form a genuine interest, until Kat learns that Patrick didn’t initially choose to date her.
Yes, it’s your standard rom-com from the ‘90s. You can guess every turn, but it’s still one of the best Ledger movies out there, and it is a must-watch. It’s a cult classic at this point!
Why is 10 Things I Hate About You leaving Netflix?
While Netflix isn’t upfront about why movies leave its platform, it’s usually due to the licensing agreements. This isn’t a Netflix Original, which means that the streamer doesn’t have exclusive rights to it forever.
It’s possible that 10 Things I Hate About You will move to another streaming platform, but that isn’t clear just yet. We probably won’t get a new streaming home until January 2026 at the earliest, so if you want to watch it before it finds a new home, you’ll need to buy it on Digital or on DVD/Blu-ray. Honestly, when it comes to the older movies, it’s definitely best to buy the copies.
10 Things I Hate About You will leave Netflix on Monday, Dec. 29.
