Brianna shares what life on the ship with Bonnet is like in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 104
Brianna has to endure life on the ship with Stephen Bonnet in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 104. However, she does get to see Josh in the cargo hold for a short time.
This chapter is all about what life on the ship is like at the moment. It’s not easy for Brianna. In fact, there are moments of discomfort. She has to sleep in Bonnet’s arms on a night.
She does get the chance to see Josh, though. She cares about him. After all, he was supposed to be traveling with her for protection, and now there’s very little the two of them can do to save themselves. Bree just has to hope that Roger and Jamie will find her in time.
This chapter isn’t in the TV series. I’ll get to why I think that was in the adaptation section. If I’m honest, I didn’t really miss it.
As for foreshadowing, I do think that’s in the description of the slaves in the cargo hold. They are all well-fed, and that is surprising to Brianna. It’s a sign of things to come. After all, Bonnet always has his reasons for doing anything, and it always involves either his life or money.
Let’s dive into A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 104.

Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Brianna talking about the night before. Bonnet wanted her to sleep in the same bed as him, and it had to be wrapped in his arms. He claims it’s for warmth, but it’s clear that he doesn’t trust Brianna not to do something while on the ship.
During the day, Bree gets to go down to the cargo hold so she can see Josh. He is with a lot of other slaves, and she learns that they are all being well-fed. It’s clear that this isn’t out of Bonnet’s goodwill. He needs to keep the slaves well-fed so they can be sold for a good price later on.
Bree isn’t staying in the cargo hold, though. She will remain with Bonnet in his bed. This is only because she can then get all the information she needs if there is ever a chance to escape. She needs to be able to hear what’s going on.
There are memories of Bonnet raping her in this chapter. This all comes up when “LeRoi” annoys her in bed. We also see Bree comparing Bonnet and Roger again in this chapter. It’s not the first time she’s done this when in danger. I do get why some people don’t really like Bree at times. I love her, but in this scene, I do want to slap some sense into her. This is not the time to think about Roger.

Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
The chapter certainly has some foreshadowing in what Bonnet has planned. He is keeping the slaves well-fed, and we know why that is. This is to make them better to sell.
Well, have you noticed that he hasn’t really laid a hand on Bree. He won’t sleep with her because she’s pregnant, but he could beat her, and he hasn’t done that yet. Nor has he allowed other men to rape her. This says a lot. He has a plan for her, and it does involve money.
Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter
The chapter wasn’t used in the adaptation. The more I think about the TV show moving this part to a house on the island instead of the boat, the more I think it was to keep the casting needs to a minimum. On the boat, there would have been the need to cast Josh and some other slaves. Keeping it on the island removed that casting need. It would have been cheaper for the show.
It also helped to cut down on time in the show. The series was able to keep to the most important parts of this storyline, which are still to come in the book. I don’t mind skipping over what is really an unnecessary chapter in the grand scheme of things.
