We get a rather odd chapter told from Forbes’s POV in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 100
It’s not often that we get a chapter from the viewpoint of a non-main character. That’s what happens in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 100.
It’s a very short chapter, especially for Diana Gabaldon. However, it’s clear that this chapter has a lot of weight for the next part of the story. Things are starting to come together, especially with some of the things we learned in the previous chapter.
Forbes is trying to get away as quickly as possible. He wants to get to the beach at Edenton with his mother, but it’s clear that he is running from someone or something. This could be linked to the carriage that has its curtains drawn. In fact, it’s highly likely that it’s linked to all this.
The chapter hasn’t been used in the TV series, and it won’t be. At least, not with Forbes. We know that the character is dead in the TV series, so if this chapter is used in any sort of way, it’s going to have to be with another character.
As for foreshadowing, I’m not sure if there’s any foreshadowing within the chapter. The foreshadowing is the choice to have a chapter from his point of view.
Let’s dive into A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 100.

Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter picks up with Forbes quickly getting out of dodge. He’s using the pretence of needing to get his mother to the seaside, and that means a trip to Edenton. If the place name rings a bell right now, that’s because Roger is in Edenton. Of course, everything is about to connect in the coming chapters.
Forbes is clearly hiding something. He just wants to keep moving, though.
However, Forbes’s mother complains about the carriage ahead of them kicking up dust. At the next stop, Forbes goes to the carriage to ask for them to drop behind him and his mother. They do just that, but we don’t get to know who was in the carriage. The curtains were drawn to hide the face.
Forbes can’t help but keep looking back at the carriage nervously after this. His mother notices, and she wants to know why he’s so nervous. He lies to say that he’s not. They just need to focus on the trip to the seaside.

Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
If you think the chapter being from Forbes’s POV is weird, you’re not alone. However, it’s clear that this is the foreshadowing. Forbes is up to something, and he’s nervous. There is a chance he’s angered the wrong person. Well, let’s be honest, of course he has angered the wrong person. He is that sort of guy.
There is someone he’s worried about in the carriage. It’s going to take some time, but we will find out who that person is.
Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter
The chapter isn’t going to be used in Outlander Season 7. At least, I can’t see that being the case. After all, Forbes is already dead. He was killed by Ulysses to protect Jocasta. All that came up in Outlander Season 5 because the entire Stephen Bonnet storyline came up earlier than in the book. This was necessary due to the way TV shows film and the risk of losing important guest stars.
Why wouldn’t this chapter end up being used in Season 5, though? Well, Bree’s abduction was handled very differently to the books. This would have been to condense the abduction and focus on the more important parts of that storyline. It worked for the TV show.
