Claire and Jamie get some time together in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 98
After spending so much time apart, Claire and Jamie get a chance to spend some quality of time together in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 98. However, ghosts of the past show up as they both process their trauma.
There were some traumatic events that happened. Claire had managed to put up a wall just to survive the threat of trial and execution up to this point. However, now that wall has a chance to crash down.
This interrupts Claire and Jamie’s lovemaking, but there is something important to take from this moment. Despite wanting Claire, Jamie still doesn’t take her unwillingly. A lot of men in this time period would do (even men now would do!) but Jamie is a good one to keep around.
The chapter hasn’t yet been used in the TV series, but that’s because of where we left Claire and Jamie in Outlander Season 6. I do expect something from this chapter to show up in the seventh season.
As for foreshadowing, I don’t see that much in here. It is clear there is still more to come for the storyline surrounding Malva’s death.
Let’s dive into A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 98.

Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with Claire and Jamie just finishing their first round of lovemaking. There is a lazy intimacy between them, but the conversation topic moves to something more serious. The two discuss why Tom decided to turn himself in. Was it something Tom always planned to do?
Jamie explains that Tom was in love with Claire. He also shares that Tom only turned himself in when it became clear that Claire had no chance of being freed. Jamie had tried hard, but Tom realized it was either now or never, and he couldn’t see Claire go down for something she didn’t do.
After that, Claire can’t help but think of people from her past. She mostly thinks about Tom and Malva, wondering what will happen to Tom now. Will he be hanged for his “crimes?” Probably. As for Malva, will the truth about her murder ever come out?
One thing she wonders is whether Ian did it. However, Jamie points out that there is no way Ian would have let Claire go down for his crimes. He would have done the right thing if necessary, but Ian isn’t a murderer.
As they finish the conversation, Jamie wants Claire again. She agrees, but her mind is on the ghosts of the past. Even Frank shows up in her thoughts, so she asks Jamie to stop and explains why. Jamie does agree to stop the lovemaking. He wants Claire to grieve and get past all this, and that means he will be there for her.

Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter
There isn’t that much foreshadowing in the chapter. However, I guess there is something involving Tom and what’s to come in An Echo in the Bone in this chapter. Claire wonders if Tom will be executed, and we’re left to believe that will happen. Of course, they’re just as surprised as we are when he shows up in the next book.
We also have that reminder that Malva’s murder still needs to be solved. Who did it? That’s still to come.
Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter
With Outlander Season 6 ending with Claire getting to jail, it’s not surprising to say that this chapter hasn’t been used in the TV series just yet. However, I do expect some of it to be used. We need to see a conversation between Jamie and Claire as to what will happen to Tom and making sure that Ian wasn’t the one to kill Malva.
It doesn’t have to take up a lot of time. We just need a 10-minute scene or so to see the two reconnect after this threat of the trial.
