Claire and Jamie fight for freedom in the Outlander Season 6 finale

If you thought any of your road trips were bad, they probably were nothing like what Jamie and Claire experienced in the Outlander Season 6 finale.

The Frasers face the fight for their lives in the Outlander Season 6 finale. It all picks up from where the previous episode left us. The Browns had turned up and wanted to arrest Claire. Of course, there’s no way that Jamie would allow that to happen.

To start, Jamie remains outside and makes it clear that Claire is not going with them. He spots Lizzie and one of the Beardsley twins at the stables, and they both run off. It’s clear they’re going for help.

Meanwhile, in the house, Claire sees Mrs. Bug and tells her to get away. Mrs. Bug will head to Arch and then they can get help.

It looks like the men are going to force their way into the house. One man does, but by this point, Claire has pulled out a couple of muskets. She fires at the man who comes in, getting him in the gut. He leaves, just as a fight breaks out outside. Brown’s men are holding and beating Jamie.

Claire manages to fire the musket at the group, catching one of the men attacking Jamie. It’s enough to get Jamie away from the men and in the house. Now it’s time for a siege.

Jamie and Claire protect their house

We see the siege play out. Claire puts a musket out the window to the back of the house. It’s made to look like Josiah is there with the Frasers. Would it be enough to fool the Committee of Safety? It looks so, although that could be because the focus is on Claire and Jamie at the front of the house.

Richard decides to wave a white flag. It’s manipulative. Jamie doesn’t shoot the man, but he shoots at the man. They’re clear warning shots, especially the one that hits Richard’s hat.

After a while, the shooting stops. It’s time for some food. Jamie knows that the fighting will go into the night. He’s also concerned that the Browns will end up setting fire to the house.

Is this the way it’s all going to go down? Is this what causes the fire at the Big House? Claire thinks about the obituary. That said they would die in January and it’s now May. Could the broadsheet be four months off? Jamie points out that he was a printer and knows you can’t always trust the broadsheet. There is a chance that this is how the fire starts.

Where are all the others? If help was coming, it would be here by now.

They do get a moment of peace and connection. Claire is sure that they could die tonight. Jamie questions about how many times he’s died, and the two go through five events: after Wentworth, after Culloden, being shot by Laoghaire, the snake bite, and Jamie agrees with Claire about the flogging. He doesn’t class the shipwreck as one because Claire nearly died, not him.

Why does this come up? Jamie has been thinking about France, and he thinks back to a fortune teller telling him that he’s like a cat with nine lives.

The fisherfolk turn up in the Outlander Season 6 finale

Hiram Crombie leads the fisherfolk in the night. Hiram has heard from Brown about everything, and he wants Claire to go with the men to face trial. The other fisherfolk aren’t too bothered about a fair trial. They view Claire as a murderer and a witch, and they want Claire dead for it.

Jamie continues to refuse to give up Claire. That’s when Tom Christie steps in. He suggests that they go to trial. He wants justice done properly. To head out, he promises to ride with them and agrees that Jamie should accompany Claire.

It’s clear that Tom is grieving, but it doesn’t look like he’s all too certain Claire had something to do with it. If Tom really felt like Claire was responsible, there is no way that he would have let Jamie accompany her.

And so, off Claire and Jamie go on the worst road trip ever. When they realize there isn’t a judge in the nearest town, they decide they need to go to Wilmington. Cross Creek is closer, but Richard Brown points out that Claire and Jamie have family and friends there. He doesn’t think Claire would get a fair trial.

Well, it’s not like she’s going to get a fair trial. What he means is that she won’t get the guilty plea that he wants. Richard goes as far as spreading the news that Claire is a murderer on the road. The people at Wilmington will hear all about it before Claire and Jamie even get there. We all know what happens when a group of people has made a decision based on hearsay. Claire doesn’t stand a chance.

Richard Brown splits up Claire and Jamie

At first, things go relatively smoothly. That is until the man Claire shot dies on the journey. Did anyone really expect him to live? You’ve got to love that people are mad at Claire for defending herself and her home.

Regardless, the men don’t like her. And neither do the village people when they go through one of the local homesteads. Those people start throwing stones and a fight breaks out. Claire does punch one of the men coming in to attack, which later leads to a conversation about her hand potentially being broken.

Tom is the one who manages to break up the commotion by firing a shot into the air. He wants to see justice happen, that’s all. He has a right to that since Malva was his daughter. Richard Brown manages to get his Committee of Safety through the village, and they’re back on their way.

Overnight, it turns out that Young Ian has been tracking them. He manages to get Jamie alone and wants to help. He wants Claire and Jamie to run. That’s not going to happen at this point, so Ian has to leave to get help. That’s the only option at this point.

The troubles aren’t over, though. Richard and his men decide to negate the deal with Tom. They split Claire and Jamie up. Richard will take Claire to Wilmington and one of Richard’s men will deal with Jamie. Tom chooses to stay with Claire. He knows Jamie can take care of himself, but Claire will die if she’s not with her. Why would he really care if he believed Claire had killed Malva?

Claire knows that Tom is right, though. When she finally gets to Wilmington, she’s placed in a jail cell. Tom watches as Richard pays the jailer. It’s clear that Richard is going to get this jailer in his pocket, and Tom is concerned. So, he decides to give Claire some money to look after herself.

Brianna and Roger’s road trip is very different

While all that goes on in the Outlander Season 6 finale, we have snippets of Bree and Roger’s road trip to Edenton. This is going a lot easier and has many more happy moments. We even get a night of them being intimate in the tent, along with some of the more realistic elements of baby bumps and small spaces being a problem.

During the trip, there are a few important conversations. As Bree talks about the battles and events that have already happened, the two need to discuss when they tell Jemmy about his ability to time travel. They don’t want to say anything too soon because he needs to understand the severity of talking about it.

Bree and Roger think about the lies they were told, or the secrets kept from them. There wasn’t much that the Reverend could have done differently for Roger. Wakefield had no idea about the ability to time travel, and he never pretended to be Roger’s dad.

What about Bree? She does wish that her parents told her sooner about who she was and what she could do. However, she also understands the promise that Claire made to Frank, and she doesn’t resent Claire for keeping that promise. She’s no longer angry about the secret being kept for too long. It wasn’t a bad thing for Bree to believe that Frank was her father.

During another stop, Bree realizes that Jemmy has lice. That means cutting his hair. When she does that, she sees a small mark on his head. Roger notes that it’s nothing serious. He had one, and his doctor shared that it’s benign. It’s also hereditary.

Yes, hereditary. Roger says it so matter-of-factly that he’s not considered what it means. Bree does, and then slowly Roger realizes the weight of the words. Jemmy is his biological son. And with that, Roger exclaims that he has lice too and needs his hair cutting short. Bree doesn’t argue.

“Like father, like son,” Roger comments about the lice, and it’s the happiest moment of the entire episode.

Jamie is almost sent to Scotland

We just wish the ending to the episode could be happy. As expected, the Outlander Season 6 finale ended with a cliffhanger. Considering when the decision was made to cut the season short, this isn’t all that surprising.

We find out where Jamie is. He’s tied to a pole in the ground on a beach. Is he going to be left for dead as the tide comes in? Fortunately not. Instead, his captors tell him that he’s being sent back to Scotland.

Other people have other plans, though. Suddenly, an arrow flies through the air and hits one of the men. Jamie and the others look around to see Young Ian on top of a cliff, and he is not alone. The Cherokee and John Quincy Myers have come with him to save Jamie. Bird makes it clear that he promised to stand by Jamie, and that’s what he is doing in this moment. Karma comes back three-fold.

The group take out almost all of Richard Brown’s men. All but one. Jamie wants to keep him alive since he knows where Claire is. The man is clearly happy about that, but his smile fades when Young Ian shares that he also knows where Claire is.

Oh dear. Brown’s man isn’t needed, so he’s killed. Jamie and the others ride off to get Claire. And that’s where we end the Outlander Season 6 finale!
