Claire worries about pregnancy for a second in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 32

There is a lot on the minds of various characters right now. For Claire, it’s all about pregnancy in Outlander Book 6, Chapter 32.

This chapter is a very short one. It’s only to move us onto the next part of the story, while dropping that very real fear that Claire is pregnant. I’ve got to question just how long as past from the abduction, though. I didn’t get morning sickness until I was around six to eight weeks with both of mine and I know very few women who got it earlier.

Is it really possible for Claire to be worried about that? It seems that maybe it is. But does Mrs. Bug worry about that too?

This chapter hasn’t been used in the series. I’m not sure if it will be or not. We might skip over any idea that Claire could be pregnant from the attack. After all, Jamie never had that conversation with Roger. I’ll get to my thoughts on this in the adaptation section.

As for foreshadowing, there is a little of that, but it’s not about pregnancy. I’ll get to my thoughts on that in the foreshadowing section.

Let’s dive into A Breath of Snow and Ashes Chapter 32.

Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Claire getting to the kitchen where Mrs. Bug is. Mrs. Bug is making breakfast and makes sure that Claire has some good food to eat.

While eating, Claire asks about Lionel Brown. Mrs. Bug is not happy with the situation. She believes that hanging is too good for him. What would she prefer to see? We don’t get to know that as Claire suddenly throws up everything she’s eaten and drank up to then.

Claire starts to worry that she could be pregnant. She refuses to believe that it’s possible. She doesn’t want to believe it is possible. I know some of it is because she doesn’t want to question the paternity of the child. Another part will be fear of surviving the pregnancy. In the books, she suffered a placental abruption. If it wasn’t for 20th-century medicine, she would have likely died giving birth to Brianna.

So, she won’t want to be pregnant again. There’s a strong chance the placental abruption will happen again, and that would likely be a death sentence for her and the child.

Claire decides that she’s not going to think of the situation. She’s going to go see Tom Christie to check on his hand. She needs to keep busy right now.

Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

The foreshadowing in this chapter isn’t to do with the potential pregnancy. It turns out Claire isn’t. Considering everything she faced, of course her body was going to be out of whack right now.

This chapter’s foreshadowing is in Mrs. Bug’s words. She doesn’t think hanging is good enough for Lionel Brown. We know that Jamie doesn’t even get a chance to hang him. Mrs. Bug takes care of that situation for everyone.

Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter

The chapter hasn’t been used in the series. I don’t think it will be.

Mrs. Bug isn’t as big of a character in the series as she is in the books. There’s a chance she’ll become more important in the sixth season, but there’s no need for this chapter at this point. Lionel Brown is already dead, killed by Marsali.

There’s also no real need for the pregnancy fear storyline. We can skip over all this and get onto the bigger storylines in A Breath of Snow and Ashes. There’s so much to cover and just not enough time, so this part isn’t necessary for me.
