Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This chapter is mostly about focusing on Claire’s healing journey. There is a bit for Roger, too, but it’s mostly about Claire—as it should be. We get a chance to see how people react around her, and we get a chance to go into her thoughts as she figures out what she needs.

There is a little bit of foreshadowing in this. Claire’s anger is the foreshadowing. It looks like she has compassion for the men, but that’s not the case at all. She’s angry, she hates them, and she’s glad they’re dead.

Mostly, the foreshadowing is about Donner. Claire couldn’t ask Jamie about him yet, but she will do. And he is going to turn up again.

Adapting A Breath of Snow and Ashes chapter

Some of this chapter was used in the TV series. We got to see Brianna try to help Claire heal, and we got to see Jamie be there for her. What the series didn’t include was the conversation about creating doubt over a pregnancy.

I get why the book included it. It would be a topic to think about after an assault like that, especially in a time where abortion wasn’t legal and was extremely dangerous. I’m not sure the show completely overlooked it, though. I just think the conversation happened offscreen as a private moment between the characters.

We did get that moment at the end with Claire and Jamie in bed together. Claire tells Jamie that she feels safe with him as the storm rolls outside. It’s a beautiful moment, and I’ll take it over the conversation any day. That moment spoke volumes to me.

I also don’t think the bits between Brianna and Roger from the book were all that important. This had to be about Claire healing. There’s always time to focus more on Bree and Roger in Outlander Season 6, but the Season 5 finale had to be focused on Claire and Jamie at the very end.
