Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with a catch-up of what’s going on. Everyone is starting to prepare to return to Fraser’s Ridge, but Claire needs to think about her patients. Isaiah Morton is the easier one of the two. He’ll live with the bullet in his chest, and he’ll be able to enjoy life in Hillsborough with Alicia Brown, away from the Brown family.

Jamie notes that he’s become fond of the young man. While he is a bigamist, he fought to stay alive and he is still supporting both women in his life.

Then there’s Roger, and Claire is most concerned about him. While he can now breathe normally, Claire notes that there’s no vibration around the vocal cords. She’s concerned that he may never speak again, and she’s concerned about that. What could that do to Roger’s mental recovery?

Jamie and Claire discuss Tryon, who is something they all still hate after what he did. Tryon has let the majority of those involved in the rebellion go. However, he’s kept 12 of the leaders and they will face trial. Jamie notes that at least they’ll be able to speak in their defense whatever happens!

The chapter then moves onto Brianna’s dream journal. She dreams about the items she misses in the future, including Hershey bars and toilet paper. The items she and Roger think of end up in front of them, and Roger points out that toilet paper could be made but it would be blasphemy. Paper is too expensive.

Claire, Jamie, and Roger all use very little. Brianna uses the most for her artwork, and she does feel a little guilty for that. However, she does make money from some of her artwork, so she feels she can justify her uses. I do think this chapter offers us a reminder of the past and of how much we take for granted now.
