Just the Outlander chapter

Claire gets back to Lallybroch with Young Ian. Ian is immediately set upon by his parents, who were worried once more for him. And Jamie had just said Young Ian would never run off again. Granted, this time he did it for different reasons. He needed to get to Claire knowing she would likely be able to do something, even if it was just to say goodbye.

Everyone is shocked to see Claire back. She doesn’t have time to discuss the matter. Instead, she goes straight to see Jamie, who now has a fever. He’s sure Claire is a fever dream at first and then realizes that she has returned.

One thing he doesn’t want is for her to return out of pity. That’s not why she’s back, but he feels like it is. And he wants her to go.

Jamie is sure he’s going to die. He’s been through two fevers from injuries in the past. The first was after Wentworth with the help of Claire and the second was after Culloden with the help of Jenny. He comments that maybe with the two of them, they’ll get him back on his feet, but he’s sure he’s going to die.

Claire wastes no time in pulling out a small purse from her pocket. She has penicillin that she uses in the past for the first time. Jamie is confused how injecting something in his buttocks will help his arm, but Claire knows what she’s doing.

He’ll get an injection every four hours until the next day. Claire isn’t going to let him die of a fever. Although Jamie comments that he should have let her burn 20 years ago.

One thing I will say is that I’m surprised Claire doesn’t even think of the allergies to penicillin people can have. The allergies to it are deadly. I know there’s not the time to test for the allergy, but she doesn’t even think about it. She just assumes that Jamie won’t be allergic. She’s willing to take this risk to save a life.
