Foreshadowing in the Outlander chapter

This isn’t a chapter that has a lot of foreshadowing. Really, I think it focuses more on John’s developing feelings for Jamie.

The chapter focuses a lot on John’s thoughts about Jamie, including his past and his current personality. Jamie is a man who is willing to take a flogging for others. He is a leader of men, but John doesn’t quite understand why Jamie would take the flogging.

This chapter also gives us a chance to get to know some of the prisoners. It’s clear some of them will be important later in the story. We best get to know their names.

Adapting the Voyager chapter

This is a chapter that was used but never made it to Outlander Season 3. There were also some big changes in terms of who it involved.

Instead of Angus MacKenzie, a character never introduced on the series, Murtagh was the one with the tartan. We got to see him holding it, with the warning that it was now illegal to have tartan. It’s a piece of the past that Murtagh holds onto for nostalgia, and becomes an important part of his clothing choices in the New World.

However, in a deleted scene for Outlander Season 3, the tartan is found. John knows that Murtagh was the one who had it, but Jamie ends up taking the blame for it. In the end, it remained as a deleted scene, which makes sense for the show. The tartan and the flogging didn’t add to much to the overall story, so I didn’t feel it missing on the series.
