Outlander Season 5, Episode 9 focused on saving Jamie after the snake bite. Here are my five favorite moments from the entire episode.

There was a lot happening throughout Outlander Season 5, Episode 9, with most of the focus being on saving Jamie from the snake bite. It’s time to look back at the best moments.

Not all the best moments were focused on Claire and Jamie. They weren’t all about Roger’s actions or even about Brianna. In fact, I like to focus on some of the quieter moments or things that tend to be overlooked because so many focus on the main characters.

This is why I have the best main character moments. I’ve already looked at Jamie’s strongest moments throughout the episode and the Roger moments that stood out. I’ll look at Claire and Brianna’s moments tomorrow. This is about the best moments overall from Outlander Season 5, Episode 9.

5. Roger and Jamie talking in the woods

The start of the episode kicked off the main story for the 50+ minutes. Jamie was bitten by a snake while in the woods and Roger quickly realized that it was a venomous one. While Roger initially looked for the other men that went hunting with them, he returned to Jamie to find a way to help in the woods.

This led to a great conversation between them. Jamie admitted that everything Roger did in the past is to be forgotten about now. Sure, he wasn’t impressed with Roger needing to think things through before returning to Bree, but Roger was here now. After everything, Roger had remained in the past for Brianna and Jemmy. That counted for something.

The two men spent the whole episode putting differences in the past. They found respect for one another, and this is certainly a change in their bond.

4. Marsali keeping Claire calm

When Jamie first returned from the woods, Claire went through everything she needed—and everything she didn’t have. Claire’s fears of losing Jamie were starting to get the better of her.

Outlander Season 5, Episode 9 allowed Marsali to step up. She was the one that ran through everything that they did have. Marsali ran through everything that they could do at the time. She was the one that helped Claire remain calm and took control of some situations.

This was the best use of Marsali. She’s level-headed and capable in a crisis. If you put Marsali in the present day, she’d make an excellent first responder or ER nurse/doctor. This is the woman you need in a crisis.

3. The women taking care of the bison

While it wasn’t the same as the book and yes, I do question Brianna getting up without a limp, seeing the women take care of the bison was excellent. We saw Brianna’s motherly instincts to protect Jemmy. Claire quickly took control and shot down the bison.

More importantly, we saw that not everyone reacts well in a crisis. Lizzie panicked and cried. It was so perfect for her personality but also the reminder that none of us know how we would react in a crisis until that crisis happened.

And of course, we had Jamie pulling himself outside just wrapped in a sheet. There wasn’t much he could do, but he still felt that need to protect the women—not that they needed it.

2. Young Ian’s words about lost limbs

As Jamie made it clear that he’d rather die than lose a limb, Young Ian pointed out a lot of flaws in Jamie’s argument. He had the chance to remind Jamie of Ian Murray losing a leg and of Fergus losing a hand. This was a moment for Young Ian to call Jamie out on his hypocrisy.

It’s a flaw that we don’t like to admit Jamie has, but he can be a hypocrite at times. And this was one of those moments. It brings out the human in him. Of course he was going to fear losing a limb. It changes his abilities and some will fear that it changes who they are.

However, when everyone else was just trying to convince Jamie it wasn’t that bad, Young Ian was the one to get through to him. He wasn’t afraid to speak his mind and showed his love for his parents at the same time.

1. More Fergus!

Something we’ve been asking for throughout Outlander Season 5 is to see more Fergus. Episode 9 finally delivered. And we need more of our favorite Frenchman after this.

However, Fergus’s scenes certainly stood out for good reasons. They were a chance for Fergus to show that the loss of his hand isn’t all that bad. He and Marsali try to focus on everything they do have instead of dwindling on the bad. Of course, the bad gets in the way sometimes, but for the most part, they look at the good.

We also see Fergus step up when Marsali needed him. He was scared about delivering his own daughter, but he was there when Marsali knew that she couldn’t get back to the Big House in time. She couldn’t deliver the baby alone and Fergus was the husband he had to be. I love this couple so much!
