Droughtlander is still going. While we’ve had a few teases and updates to ease it, we need a TV show to help. The Witcher on Netflix is the show for you.

Outlander fans everywhere are still struggling with Droughtlander. STARZ is trying to help with the odd releases of sneak peeks and opening credits, but we still have a little more than a month to go until Season 5 premieres. So you’ll be looking for more TV shows to watch, and The Witcher will likely come up on your list.

It’s already one of our suggestions when looking through Netflix. We added it to our list in December. Now I want to share just why I think it’s an excellent show to help you get through this last bit of Droughtlander.

5. There’s a catchy song

Outlander has the Skye Boat song. Then there are the themes running throughout. Well, The Witcher won’t disappoint in that aspect.

“Pay a coin to your Witcher…” if you’ve watched the series already, you’ve definitely got that song stuck in your head right now. I can’t get it out! Now you’ve got two shows that you just need to hum the song to and think immediately of.

4. It takes concentration

You don’t want a TV show that you can just race through, do you? Of course not! You want something that is going to take up time. Something that makes you invest in the world. The Witcher will do that.

The series involves a lot of dialogue. There are three storylines happening at once and you need to pay close attention to them to understand each one individually and how they all link together. Once you think you have it, the show will throw you a new clue that destroys everything you thought you understood.

And this is a good thing. I love shows that keep me on my toes and make me think. This is one of those shows.

While there’s only one season, that’s not going to be a problem during Droughtlander. You’ll need to watch the eight episodes at least a second time to understand it all.

3. There are some powerful women

Despite being set in a Dark Ages type of England, some of the strongest characters are women. This is seen with Queen Calanthe in the very first episode, but you’ll also get it from Tissaia, Yennefer, and even Ciri. There are certain types of creatures that are run by women, and the most powerful mages tend to be the females.

And we’re not just talking about physical power. The female characters are strong in spirit. Some are products of their upbringing, while others learn to become strong due to their situation. They are certainly characters you’ll want to see succeed.

2. There’s an honest and loyal man

Geralt of Rivia is certainly great to look at. At the same time, we get a man who is honest and loyal. When he’s paid to do something, he will see it through. However, it’s not always going to be in the way that you would expect.

This is a man who has a fondness for other creatures. He wants to give everyone a chance, despite their differences. After all, he’s different and is feared by many. There are elements to his character and his loyalty that will remind you of Jamie Fraser. Sometimes!

1. There’s a beautiful mystical element to the period setting

Whether it’s the costumes, the magic used, or just the overall setting of the castles, there’s something beautiful and majestic about The Witcher. It uses its period setting perfectly, bringing a sense of Dark Ages England mixed with the fantastical element.

To be honest, this is why The Witcher has been compared to Game of Thrones. However, there are elements that will remind you of Outlander. The costumes and settings could make you feel like you’re in the French court at times, while others will harken to Leoch.
