Brianna had some spectacular moments throughout Outlander Season 4, but what about in 2019 specifically? Here are my five favorite moments from the year.

We got to know Brianna much more throughout Outlander Season 4. To mark Day 16 of the 25 Days of MacBree-mas, we’re looking at Brianna’s strongest moments. This isn’t just focued on Season 4, which we’ve already done, but on the 2019 episodes.

There were four episodes that aired in 2019. It all started with “The Deep Heart’s Cove” and ended with “A Man of Worth.” That means moments like her reunion with her mother and meeting Jamie aren’t on the list. There are still some excellent moments for the character.

5. Reuniting with Roger

The very end of the season brought us a reunion. While previous reunions happened in the 2018 episodes of Outlander Season 4, this last one took place in 2019. Brianna and Roger reunited.

Brianna thought that Roger wasn’t coming back for her. Claire and Jamie had returned alone, and Brianna was sure that meant Roger had decided to go back through the stones. Roger just needed time to know his mind and what he was fully willing to accept and do.

When she saw Roger ride up the path, Brianna raced down to meet him. She jumped into his arms and it left us with goosebumps.

4. Bonding with Jocasta over Ellen

There’s a moment often overlooked in the later episodes of Outlander Season 4. Brianna and Jocasta get the chance to bond. More importantly, Brianna gets the chance to learn more about her grandmother.

Jocasta notes how much Brianna is like Ellen. There’s the story of Ellen running off with Brian and getting pregnant so that Colum and Dougal couldn’t force Ellen to marry someone else. Was it really that surprising that Brianna would hold out for Roger or just go about life in the way that she wanted?

It was a beautiful moment between the two women. While it’s clear that Jocasta wants to follow the expectations of the times, she also doesn’t completely want to dampen Bree’s spirit.

3. Backing off from blackmailing Lord John Grey

I don’t like that Brianna tries to blackmail Lord John Grey. However, I was happy to see her back off from that almost right away. She knew it was wrong, and there was no way she could actually go through with her side of the blackmail, even if Lord John Grey refused to marry her.

It showed her initial wants, her willingness to try to call someone’s bluff, but also her morals. She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if she did ruin Lord John Grey’s life, especially when she knew he was friends with Jamie.

We got to see her grow up quickly in the past. This was one of those moments.

2. Accepting the rape wasn’t her fault

I know there are people who dislike that Jamie attacked Brianna to prove a point to her, but Jamie did have little time. Plus, we can’t expect Jamie to work with modern-day thoughts and beliefs. Jamie needed to help Brianna see that Bonnet raping her wasn’t her fault; that there was nothing she could have done.

When Brianna was raped, all fight left her. She couldn’t fight Bonnet off. In fact, she didn’t even try. Afterward, she was able to assess what she did or didn’t do. She could look back with hope that maybe there was a chance she could have fought Bonnet off.

Jamie has to help her see that she couldn’t. The only way was through the physical attack, helping Brianna realize that Bonnet would have killed her had she not just accepted the attack.

1. Facing Bonnet

While Brianna had to accept the rape wasn’t her fault, that didn’t mean she had to live in fear of Bonnet. During Outlander Season 4, Episode 12, Brianna headed to the jail to face Bonnet. She needed to make one thing clear: he would have nothing to do with their child.

Believing Bonnet to be the father, she had to make it clear that Bonnet would never be remembered. He would have no power over her, and there’s no way that this child would know about Bonnet’s actions.

It was an excellent storyline for Brianna. She’d gone from just trying to live with the idea of being raped to facing her attacking and throwing him home truths that scared everything out of him.

What did you think of Brianna’s journey in Outlander Season 4? What were the moments from the 2019 episodes that stood out the most for you? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
