She’s a good tracker

When Claire decides to go off in search for Jamie, Jenny goes with her. This is a new mom, who could easily have used the new motherhood as a reason to stay behind. In fact, many people were likely shocked that Jenny chose to leave her newborn baby behind to find her brother. However, it’s all in that Fraser trait of stubbornness.

Without Jenny, Claire would have been totally lost. Claire certainly wasn’t a tracker and didn’t know the area. Jenny did and was able to put her skills to use effortlessly. Sure, Murtagh ended up finding them but he was just much better than them at tracking–and being a good tracker doesn’t mean being good at covering tracks.

This does also link to the previous reason Outlander Seasn 1 Jenny is so good. Putting her brother first showed that she was willing to do anything for family. When Murtagh showed up, she had a good enough reason to go back; she knew her brother was in safe hands. Before that, she was willing to risk it all to get her brother back home safe.

The scenes while tracking were also important for Jenny and Claire. It was in these moments that Claire learned a whole new respect for her sister-in-law and the women of the time in general.
